Mental health & Mental health disorders
Just as we all have states of physical health, we all have states of mental health. Mental Health refers to the way we think, feel, behave and cope. We can have periods of good mental health and experience periods of poor mental health without having a ‘mental health disorder’. Often, we don’t take a proactive approach to our mental health and only seek help when we feel we are struggling.
Terms like ‘anxiety’ and ‘depression’ are often misunderstood. Someone can feel anxious without ‘having anxiety’ or feel depressed without ‘having depression’.
A mental health disorder requires diagnosis from a General Practitioner, Psychologist or Psychiatrist.
